Happy B-day, Mom

Grown don’t mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown? What’s that supposed to mean? In my heart it don’t mean a thing. ~Toni Morrison, Beloved, 1987

Mom–
The one
Who loves us
In spite of our
Flaws and prickliness.
The one who gave us life
And sacrificed her own hopes
To keep us happy, safe, and clean.
How can we ever thank her enough?
But perhaps she doesn’t need repayment.

Note: This poetic form is an Etheree. Today is my mom’s birthday (I won’t say how many!). Happy B-day, Mom!

  1. Happy Birthday to your Mom, Debbie!

Love both the quote at the start of this post, and your poem. You are so clever with words!

And that cake look delicious. Reminds me of the cakes we had when I was a kid with that nice, thick icing. And I would always ask for a rose. LOL!

Have a great rest of your week, my friend! X

    • Domer likes the roses, too, Ron — all that gooey icing! Thanks for dropping by to help make my mom’s B-day special. She’s enjoying all the attention! xo

  2. Aw, Debbie, this is such a precious poem. Happy birthday to your Mother. As a Mother myself yes I know it is true age has nothing to do with how we feel for our Mothers. God bless you and your Mom!! xo
