Thankful Thursday (5)

Gratitude is the memory of the heart. ~Jean Massieu, pioneering deaf educator from France

Finally an end

To heat and humidity.

A welcome cold front

Note: This is another in the Thankful Thursday series, in which we express gratitude for something in our world. While I might not post every week on this topic, I do try to focus on the positive things in life. We’ve had a string of beastly hot and muggy days, but when these clouds rolled overhead, I knew we were in for some relief (and I wasn’t wrong!)

  1. Debbie, this is one of your Thankful Thursday’s in which I have to YES, YES, YES….me too! Finally, after our horrendously hot and humid summer, I can feel Autumn beginning its move-in. Hallelujah! Yesterday was the first day I could walk in the city and not sweat. I spent most of the day outdoors; savoring it!

Good one, my friend! Enjoy the cold front.

    Have a great weekend! X

    • I knew you’d agree, Ron — Fall is our favorite season!! We had this cold front which cooled things down nicely; then we had a couple of days where we were back to the heat and humidity. Now they’re telling us this weekend will be downright chilly (highs not even reaching 70 degrees!) Boy, are Monk and I looking forward to that! I love pumpkin (and it’s everywhere at this time of year), but who wants it when it’s 90 degrees outdoors?? Hope you get more coolish days to walk about, my friend! xx

  2. I’ll bet your cold front’s part of the system that’s supposed to finally clear us out after days and days (and days) of rain, bringing lows is the upper 60s. That’s not much in your world, but you know how welcome it will be down here. Enjoy!

    • Linda, I’ve been watching your rain and hoping you, too, would get in on the pleasant weather. As I recall, Texas can still be pretty warm, even in October, but the rain’s another story indeed. I imagine it’s put a bit of a crimp in your work.

    • Thanks very much, Frank. Yes, we’ve had a string of pretty miserable weather (even for Central Illinois!). The sweating corn doesn’t help, either! As long as we can keep some of these cool fronts coming in, we’ll be okay — we’ll be happy to share them, of course!

    • Me, too, Laurie! September starts out fairly warm here but by its end, things are cooling down nicely (just in time for the farmers to get into the fields and harvest those crops). I always get a bit over-eager, though, for Fall to arrive!

    • Sometimes, it seems like Summer just wears out its welcome here. I have to agree that I’m NOT ready for ice and snow, but Fall is my favorite season — I love everything about it! — and these cool fronts really help to make the air crisp!

  4. We are having a couple of days in the low 80s so I join you in giving thanks. I can’t say our 100 degree days are over but at least we get a break. I’m glad you are as well, Debbie.

  5. I wish I could say the same. It was in the low 70s and 91% humidity when I walked this morning, at 6:30!

I enjoyed your Haiku and your cloudy skies. 🙂

  6. I’m always grateful when it cools down and gets fresher too, though that hasn’t been an issue here this year – we really haven’t had a summer at all. Still, after all the rain there won’t be any water shortages!

    • I’m glad you’re looking on the bright side! Days upon days of rain kind of make me feel a tad depressed — I really prefer a sun-shiny day! Still, this wretched heat and mugginess really sap one’s energy. ‘Tis hard to find a happy medium sometimes!

  7. We were supposed to get rain with this morning’s cold front, but it didn’t happen. So I’ll just be grateful for a break from the heat, and look forward to the time when I can be grateful for rain!

    • A wonderful, positive attitude, Ann! Sometimes I find it hard to be grateful for rain (or snow!), but I think it’s important to try to find things to be thankful for — especially when it’s hard. (Now don’t get me started on being thankful for bats, ha!)
