Wouldn’t it be an exhilarating tonic for the soul to take a moment to appreciate the simple, good things in life which are so bountiful…? ~Author unknown, c.1949
Cranberries are here!
Delicious and good for you.
Savor autumn’s joy.
Note: This is yet another post celebrating things we ought to be grateful for. Did you know cranberries are loaded with antioxidants and show benefits for heart, digestion, oral health, urinary tract, skin, and other parts of the human body?

I love cranberries. I’ve not seen any in the stores yet, but when they come I’ll make my favorite raw cranberry/orange relish even before Thanksgiving arrives. Of course, there’s cranberry bread, cranberry scones, cranberry and onion stuffed pork loin…
And of course you can thread long strings of them to decorate a Christmas tree! You even could string them around your outdoor tree, since birds will eat them!
I’ve been waiting eagerly for them to arrive here. Ever since I had to change my diet (because of the IBS), I’ve had to stay away from high fructose corn syrup (which is in canned cranberries). Making stuff fresh is a game-changer for me.
I’m sorry for the birds, but with the price of groceries this year, I’ll be hoarding every bag of cranberries I find!
October is peak harvesting time for cranberries on Cape Cod. I miss driving by the colorful red bogs on my way to visit my grandparents, oh so long ago…
You actually got to see them growing, Barbara? How cool that must’ve been! I’ve only seen pictures. I’m glad I was able to nudge a happy memory for you.
Tis the season for cranberries!!!! Woo hoo … what a joy! Meanwhile, I hope all is well.
Glad you appreciate cranberries, too, Frank. It’s good hearing from you — I hope your break is going well. You’re missed, you know (but no pressure to return before you’re ready!)
Yay cranberries! Every morning, I have dried cranberries on my oatmeal.
I’ve never been an oatmeal person. Something about the sticky texture that my mouth doesn’t like. And I’m sorry, but even cranberries on top of it wouldn’t make it palatable! Still, I’m happy you, too, appreciate cranberries, Laurie.
Debbie, don’t you love how each season has its own produce specialties? I LOVE cranberries. Not only tasty, but also contain a slew of health benefits. I enjoy them fresh and dried. I love them mixed with raw cashews.
Thanks for the reminder, my friend! Have a grrrrreat rest of your week! X
Ron, I figured you, too, were a cranberry-lover! Aren’t they just the cutest little red balls of joy?!
I’m making my own cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving this year (thanks to my IBS, fresh is way better for me than canned). But I plan on buying up all those mesh bags I can get my hands on and sticking them in the freezer for later. They keep really well, and I’d love having them year- round.
Enjoy the upcoming weekend! xx
We don’t usually see them this early and ours come in packages rather than cute mesh bags like that. Now you have me craving the salsa I make with them! It’s a beautiful fall dish with blue corn tortillas! 😋
Kelly, I imagine the red of the berries and the blue of the tortillas look splendid on your table! I don’t guess I’ve ever seen fresh cranberries in anything other than these mesh bags here. Maybe it’s just the places I shop, or maybe just the farms the stores are purchasing them from. Whatever, they’re really cute … and good for you!
Yum, I LOVE cranberries!
Me, too, Eliza — I can hardly wait to taste them!
whooo hoo!!!! Cranberries! I haven’t seen them packaged like that, that’s pretty cool. I have only seen them in plastic bags. Since I don’t like pumpkin spice (OK, I’ve never tried that) cranberries are my sign that the holidays are here!
Dawn, the label on these cranberries says they’re grown in Wisconsin. Maybe the fruit you’re buying is grown elsewhere? Anyway, I understand mesh bags like this can be repurposed into pot scrubbers, potpourri sachets, or other clever DIY projects, too. Who knew??

I like cranberries too and am glad they are here.
Thanks for stopping by, John. It’s great to “meet” another cranberry lover!
😁
Believe it or not, I’ve never had a cranberry! Cranberry juice, yes, and cranberry muffins, but never an actual berry. I shall look out for them next time I’m at the grocery.
As someone who used to love canned cranberry sauce, I’m so glad I switched to fresh berries. They have the recipe right on the label, and it’s so easy, Monkey could do it! And I don’t have to worry over that added high fructose corn syrup either. Win-win.
