Incredible
To think there will be a to-morrow morning,
And you will not be there…
~Joseph Auslander, American poet, anthologist, and novelist
I Monkey here.
You haven’t heard from me since my Walktober post, so I thought I’d remedy that while Mama is otherwise occupied.
Bet you’ve missed me, right?
I Monkey have missed my Mama.
She packed up my things (food, treats, toys, blanket), and I got all excited, thinking we were heading out on an adventure.
She let me hop in the car all by myself, and we were off — traveling to points unknown and eager to sniff new smells.
Wait, what? Mama, where’s your suitcase? You can’t go on an adventure without a change of clothes. Or a toothbrush. Or face cream.
Humph, it turns out that we weren’t going on an adventure at all.
Mama pulled into the parking lot of the boarding place I’d stayed before, grabbed my stuff and me, and escorted me inside.
There, she chatted a few minutes with two girls who worked there before handing them my stuff. And me on my leash.
Mama! You’re not staying, too? What’s going on here?
But Mama gave me a quick kiss, turned around, and walked right out the door! Huh.
Needless to say, I missed Mama something fierce. Missed our routine. Our walks. My backyard.
Even that screechy flute-thing.
For days upon days (I guess — little monkeys like me really can’t tell time), I waited. And watched. And hoped.
Could Mama have forgotten me? Was she having an adventure without me? Was she making good on her threat to re-home me? And where was that Feast she’d been talking about?
Well, one evening, just as I was about to lose all hope of seeing Mama again, the girls strapped on my leash, packed up my things, and led me to the waiting area … and there was my Mama!
Best of all, she wasn’t alone. My brofur the Domer was with her!
I got all wiggly and excited, running from one of my people to the other and trying to remember not to pee on the boarding place’s floor in my excitement.
Then we all hopped in the car and headed home.
Now THIS must be what Thanksgiving is all about, don’t you think??
“Now THIS must be what Thanksgiving is all about, don’t you think??”
Yes, Monkey….I most certainly do! And I had a feeling as I was reading your post, that it had something to do with Domer coming home for the Thanksgiving holiday. I bet you and he were so happy to see one another – brofur and brofur!
Sounds like you, Domer, and Mama had a VERY thankful Thanksgiving. Yahooooooooo!
Always enjoy your post, Monkey! Wishing you and Mama a superb week! X
Thank you, Mr. Ron. Yes, I Monkey was surprised and delighted to see my brofur! Mama said it had been four months since he was last home, and four months to a little monkey is a LONG time.
It was a different kind of Thanksgiving here. Everybody was missing Gramma. I caught some wee tears in Mama’s eyes, but perhaps that was the onion seasoning in the dressing??
We hope your Turkey-day was wonderful, too … and that you weren’t swamped by the Black Friday madness!! Licks and kisses, Monkey
I can feel the excitement from here! There’s nothing like someone coming home to make it really feel like Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Miss Linda. I Monkey especially enjoy having my brofur home. Even when he has to do remote work, he finds time to pay attention to a little monkey like me. Mama, on the other hand, seems to find excuses NOT to mind me (maybe that’s a bit harsh — she *does* have lots of things to do during the holidays, and I Monkey don’t help when I go outside and bring in lots of mud, hee hee!!)
Had to be the greatest Thanksgiving of all. Thanks for sharing, Monkey.
You’re most welcome, Mr. John. It would have been kind of lonely this year with just me and Mama.
But there he was.
Well done, Monkey. You got it because Thanksgiving is about the simple things in life that we tend to forget. At least you get it!
Well, thank you, Mr Frank. Yes, I Monkey have to appreciate the little things. After all, I’m getting to be a BIG dog now — I’ll be four in just two weeks!!
Awww, I have missed you Monkey! You made this sound so pitiful, but I feel sure you were in good hands the whole time.
Miss Kelly, Mama says I was in fine hands. I didn’t lose any weight, I didn’t get sick, and I had some company (from the staff as well as other boarders). But after all her talk about The Feast, I was afraid I was going to miss it — and I didn’t! She and Domer were happy to share with me (only the things little monkeys are able to consume, of course!)
Aw, I’m glad you didn’t miss the Feast, Monkey! And how nice that your brofur was home for the holiday. I bet your Mama missed you too! I’ve missed both of you. 😀
Why, Miss FF, I Monkey thank you for telling me and Mama that — we were AWOL longer than we’d planned, and it’s great to be back! I overheard Mama asking Domer to take me back to the Windy City with him, and then I could accompany him when he returns for Christmas. Don’t you think that sounds like fun? I Monkey do. Sadly, my brofur said he’s got too much to deal with in the next few weeks to include me in the mix, so here I stay with Mama. That’s okay though. At least I know he’s going to be back soon!
That does sound like it would have been fun, but you’d miss your Mama and she’d miss you! Only a few weeks to Christmas anyway – and more feasting!
I Monkey suppose you’re right — I would miss Mama. That’s what Domer said, anyway! And I’m all ready for another feast!
Aww, now that is a sweet homecoming, Monkey. Family is what it is all about!
Yes, ma’am, Miss Eliza. I Monkey fully agree!
Hi Monkey! Yes, we missed you and your mama!! So happy to hear that your anxiety was relieved with double family goodness. And it is really good that your mama has a place for you to visit every now and then.
Did your family watch the Macy’s float parade or the National Doggo Show? We spent much of our day all smiles on the sofa. We every bit of the doggo show, cheering on Yorkshire Terrier “Haven”! I’m envious of Haven’s long to the floor silky hair with the prettiest bow that I’ve ever seen. If I could just keep my mama away from me with those snipping scissors, I would be equally as beautiful as doggo Haven! She came in 4th place which is pretty darn good with all of the contestants. Can you believe a pug-of-love won the entire contest? They are cute… but we with our hair and long furred shelties are the most beautiful and handsome of all! Yay for a bit of turkey breast. It is delicious! 🐾🐾❤️
Hey Yorkie! I Monkey am pleased to learn Mama and I were missed. We missed hearing from all of you, too. Yes, indeed, we watched the first part of the Doggo Show, but Mama and Domer get so miffed when their favorites get overlooked. Then, the Domer was watching his tablet while the TV was playing, and he announced the pug had won the whole kit-and-caboodle, so they turned off the show! Mama doesn’t like pugs — never has. Something about those angry-looking black faces, I think. Anyway, around here, long-haired dogs are KING! Yes, I got to feast on turkey breast, along with some of the veggies — I even got a bite or two of pie. What a yummy feast — we should have that every day, don’t you think?!
So good to hear you came together with your whole family for Thanksgiving after all, Monkey! Family is everything! ♡♡♡
Thank you, Miss Barbara. I Monkey hope your Turkey-Day was lovely, too! It’s grand when little monkeys get to share in the feast.
Monkey, your mom would never desert you! Sometimes she just needs a little time away, and she makes sure you’re well taken care of when she does. And I think that the way you felt when she came back to get you is exactly what Thanksgiving is all about!
I Monkey can see you understand perfectly. Miss Ann. Mama has never deserted me yet — not even when I was sick all over her floor! — so I guess maybe this is my furever home! I still don’t understand why she feels the need to be away from me — even briefly — though. It’s not like I’m not worlds of energy and fun!!
So glad you were all reunited for Thanksgiving. What do you think Monkey? Is that your favorite holiday?

I Monkey love ALL holidays, Miss Pat! So much yummy food (when I can get Mama to share, that is!)
