I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see. ~John Burroughs, American naturalist and nature essayist
Today is my birthday — I’m finally four!
Too late for Mama to show me the door!
I’ve barfed and I’ve pottied all over her floor,
But one thing’s for certain: I’m never a bore!
Today’s my birthday — it’s all about ME!
I’m just as happy as happy can be.
Cats and squirrels, you’d better all flee;
Guarding and chasing are fun for Monkey!
Today’s my birthday — let’s celebrate!
You bring yourselves; I’ll host the fete.
Cake, ice cream, cookies on a plate;
Only the best, nothing third-rate.
Today’s my birthday — oh, happy day!
I’m ready to party; I’m ready to bay.
I can’t promise anything but skies of gray;
Still, come to my party and be ready to play!
Note: Poetry form (I think) is quatrains. Could be rhyming couplets though.

Happy Birthday. Monkey! You are a handsome dude! Penny says she might be in love.
Oh, golly, Miss Dawn, I Monkey am blushing through my furs! I’ve admired Miss Penny for two years now and am honored she pauses in her busy schedule long enough to give me a passing thought. Thank you!
Okay, first I want to say…..HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MONKEY! Woot! Woot! And I hope you have the BEST day ever!
Second, that photograph of you is sooooooooooooooooo adorable! What a face! What a smile! You look like a movie star! You could be the next Lassie!
And third, Debbie this poem is not only clever, but so well-written!
“I’ve barfed and I’ve pottied all over her floor,
But one thing’s for certain: I’m never a bore!” – LOL!
Thanks so much for the early morning smiles and giggles!
Have a great Monday! X
Mr. Ron, I Monkey am happy you like my photo. Mama was juggling the camera in one hand and treats in the other to get it — I refuse to pose for pictures unless I get rewarded. It’s in my contract or something!
Now, if you can send me some lovely, sunny weather, I’d *really* be a happy pup! We’re inundated with rain and clouds … and have been for days. Little Monkeys like me need to get outdoors and stretch our legs, without making Mama cross by bringing in the muddy yard!! XX
Happy Birthday, Monkey!!! 🎂🥳 How lucky you are to have a poet Mama to remember your special day with some verse — all about you!
Why thank you, Miss Barbara. I Monkey rather think it’s my due … having Mama write a poem just for me. I mean, gee, what better things does she have to do all day anyway?!?
Happy Birthday, Monkey. I didn’t realize you are also a poet! Well done …. and I hope Mom gives you special treats today and does things that you enjoy. (Plus never mention the saintly one before you.)
Mr. Frank, it’s not even noon here yet, and thus far, I Monkey haven’t heard one word of “the saintly one” come out of Mama’s mouth! Perhaps she’s forgotten?? Or more likely, she’s remembering, but trying to make my day special for me. Whatever. At least she’s handing out the treats (I got a bite of doughnut this morning, and it was superb!!)
Now that’s a lot of good news.
A birthday! and Monkey still has a loving home, despite it all! Happy Birthday! That’s a great poem; I’m sure it’s quatrains, but beyond that I’m not sure about the rhyme scheme. I do know that it’s a fun poem, and I hope all the days of your next year are filled with fun!
Well, Miss Linda, Mama continues to toss out threats of sending me packing, but thus far, I Monkey haven’t seen any boxes, so I’m holding out hope. I’m not giving her up, that’s for sure! I stick to her like cling-wrap — maybe she’s hoping we’ve already been through the worst of things??
You know, Monkey? I think your mama should share more pictures of you, cause you’re such a handsome boy.
Aw, gee, thanks, Miss Dawn! Mama snapped this one after my visit to the groomer, so I Monkey guess all that time on the table being brushed and so forth was worth it!
Happy Birthday, Monkey. I hope your day is the best.
Thanks, Mr. John. Thus far, I Monkey can’t complain!
Excellent.
Happy Birthday, Monkey!! What a fun poem for your special day!
Thank you, Miss Kelly. Sometimes, Mama surprises me, hee hee!
Monkey, I am taking a blogging break, but I had to stop by to wish you a happy birthday. What a beautiful boy you are! Hope you get extra treats today.
Miss Laurie, I Monkey am honored you’re coming out of your blogging break to wish me a happy birthday! Yes, Mama got me a WHOLE BAG of treats … plus a crinkly toy to play with. And, we braved all the wet roads to take a nice walkie, too. A pretty fun day, indeed.
Happy birthday, Monkey! You share a birthday with Beethoven, though it probably means nothing to you but maybe to your mama. 😉
Beethoven?? Why, thank you for telling me that, Miss Eliza. I Monkey am honored to be in such good company (except for the deaf thing, you know!). I’m pretty sure Mama already knew that, but *you* were the one who told me!
Yorkie here. Ready for your birthday party Monkey! I hope I’m not too late for cake and play!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONKEY 🐾🐾🎂🎉🎁
Yorkie, I Monkey am celebrating all month, hee hee! Not every doggo is lucky enough to have birthday cake and presents AND a Christmas feast and more presents all in the same month!!
You are absolutely correct! A month of celebration. 🥳 🎉 Let’s make some noise and magical memories!
Mama put up my stocking low to ground on our fake fireplace mantel so I can smell it everyday to check if Santa has been by. Not yet!!
Excellent, Yorkie! I Monkey know that you, like me, don’t want to miss Santa Paws!
Happy Birthday, Monkey! And your mama would never show you the door! She loves you too much….
Are you sure of that, Miss Ann? Because I Monkey am definitely not! She threatens all the time to pack me off to some other home. Of course, I suppose those are empty threats because I Monkey haven’t seen anything to indicate she’s serious about them, hee hee!
All grown up and handsome, the sweetest of the sweets,
We raise a glass and wish you lots of hugs and fun and treats
Congratulations, Monkey, the pup we all adore
Have a lovely birthday, and here’s to many more!
PS I loved your poem – I bet your talented Mama helped you with it!
A poem for me??? You’re certainly the best!
I Monkey know I’m a dog who is blessed;
And Miss FF, I hope you have guessed
That you of course are invited to my fest!
Love and licks, Monkey
