Is Spring Here Yet?

So before long we can open the windows wide and let Spring in, and we can go out to the park or sit on a hillside and let Spring into us. ~Hal Borland, American writer, journalist, and naturalist

  1. Patience, little Monk. Hal Borland also observed that “no winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.” I hope you see some birds or cats out there to watch while you wait for the time to pass.

    • LOL! Barbara, he doesn’t have any more patience than his mama does! Both of us are eagerly looking forward to Spring. Sitting in a sunny window helps; sadly, we’ve had more than our share of gray days this winter.

    • Oh, dear, you do have a point. I guess I should be more thankful that he hasn’t tried chewing on the furniture! (Shh, we won’t say it too loud. Don’t want to put ideas into his furry head!)

    • Monk likes the snow, too, but I’m totally ready for Spring. I say that, but I’m NOT ready for a wet Spring. Bending over and cleaning four paws every time he wants to go out has gotten old fast!

  2. Debbie, I just Googled first day of Spring because I didn’t remember when it is, and I saw – March 20th. So, soon!

LOVE the picture of The Monk! His fur is so handsomely marked with color.

Have a super Sunday, my friend! X

    • Ron, I wouldn’t mind winter if we could keep the ground mostly frozen, and I wouldn’t have to clean four muddy paws every time the Monk comes indoors! As it is, we’re on the frozen-thaw circuit, and I’ve about had it with the entire yard.

Then, too, I’m craving sunshine, something we’ve had far too little of this winter.

I’m glad you like Monk’s picture. I kind of think he looks like a glowing angel from this vantage point, but I’m not holding my breath that he might become more angelic any time soon, ha! XX

  3. Tell Monk to listen as well as watch. At least for this morning, I have the windows open, and there’s a mockingbird and a cardinal singing away. Last night, some doves were cooing. No matter the temperature, those are signs of spring!

Of course, the warmth is pretty darned nice!

    • Send some of that warmth up my way, Linda! These cold, gray days feel even drearier when you can’t see the sun. As for the birds, well, even they seem somewhat subdued on days like this — whereas on sunny days, they tend to sing their little hearts out!

  4. Haha, Monkey, I hope you catch Spring before you catch a cat! Spring doesn’t usually fight back… 😉 It has been a long winter, but in my little part of the world it’ll be a long time yet before Spring arrives.

    • When Monk goes to his groomer’s, he seems fine with her cats; the neighbors’ cats, however, bring out some aggression. Perhaps he just can’t stand them waltzing through his yard? Anyway, I wouldn’t mind winter so much if we had more sunny days….

  5. Your little Monkey is all grown up! That’s what happens when I leave blogging for almost three years, I guess. So nice to see the little fellow again. I think most of us are waiting for spring…

    • Kathy!!! Is that really you?!?! Are you back to blogging? Don’t bother telling me, I’ll just hop over and see for myself. You’ve been missed, you know. Yes, the Monk is finally an adult, but he hasn’t settled down much (and that makes me long for him to reach the sugar-coated-nose phase, were it not for the illnesses that might go with that!)

    • Monk does have a lovely coat (which isn’t as pretty now that he’s re-developed the itchies). I do what I can to spell the groomer off; otherwise, he’d be there every month! If I recall, you Mainers love all that snow and cold, so this should be a good winter for you, right?

    • We’re waiting on yet another winter storm, Ann, so it sure feels like we’re a LONG way from Spring. Guess Phil was right, despite our hopes!

  6. Monkey, Yorkie here. It isn’t Spring yet. Another cold front returns on Thursday for us. We heard on GMA that you will be getting more snow! Have you seen any snowcats out your window?

    • Hi, Yorkie! Mama here (Monk’s snoozing!). Yes, indeed, Monk has seen snowcats outside the window, and I’m surprised you haven’t heard the commotion he raises from where you are. He puts on his fierce face and barks long and steady, sending the snowcats right back where they came from. I know you, too, will be glad to see Spring arrive.

  7. Or a cat. lol!! My father’s dog would watch for the neighbor’s cat, diligently. It was his primary duty in life to watch for that cat. Makes me smile to think of it. It’s been a very wintry winter, hasn’t it?

    • Monk sounds like your dad’s cat. He seems to think it’s his job to wait for the cat to appear, then to bark and scare it back where it came from. Here, we’re expecting a series of cold front this coming week, one right after another. We’ll both be glad when we can get outside and walk off some of Monk’s excess energy again!
