Today is a most unusual day, because we have never lived it before; we will never live it again; it is the only day we have. ~William Arthur Ward, American motivational writer
There once was a day so grand
It was honored all over the land.
With a Sheltie or two
You’ll never be blue
And love you’ll always command.
Note: Poetry form is Limerick (which I haven’t written in ages!). Today, June 1, is International Sheltie Day. The Monk insisted we recognize the occasion this year — he’s demanding good treats and extra belly scratches.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL SHELTIE DAY, Monk!
SO handsome you are! You look like a doggie Supermodel in that photograph on “Dogue” magazine!
Hope you get good treats and extra belly scratches, Monk!
X to you and Mama!
Oh, dear, Ron — your compliments are going to go straight to the Monk’s head (and he’s already got a pretty huge ego!) Doggie Supermodel? Well, he is pretty cute — though I was always taught that “pretty is as pretty does,” and sadly, sometimes he doesn’t do pretty!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! XX
Oh no! It’s International Sheltie Day? And me on the road? Pen is going to throw a fit!
Uh-oh. I think I’ve forgotten International Sheltie Day more times than I’ve remembered it. At least you’ve got a good excuse, Dawn. It’s not like you were home and neglected to celebrate. And I’ll bet guilt will prompt you to go overboard loving on her when you get back!
Honoring a special day with poetry always works! Of course, for Monk, every day is special! Have fun celebrating!
Thanks, Linda. Yes, the Monk is pretty adept at claiming my attention … along with more treats than he really needs!
Happy Sheltie Day, Handsome!
Aw, gee, thanks, Eliza. Who knew we had a full day for celebrating Shelties?!?
A doggie supermodel is right! As we would say in Maine, today is a finest kind of day. Enjoy, enjoy!
I like your Maine expressions, Laurie. “Finest kind of day” describes it to a tee!
I would say that Monk deserves a special day and lovely limerick too.
Thank you, John. At first, I wrote a Haiku, but that didn’t say what I wanted to, so I scrapped it and tried again. You know how that goes, right?
I do for sure. It all worked out well. 😀
Thanks very much!
😊
My sister would have LOVED this day since she sure loved her shelties. Perhaps she and her boys and Dallas are looking down on you and Monkey with happiness. Enjoy your big day, Monkey! (it’s nice reading a clean limerick! 😂)
“Clean Limerick”?? HaHa, that makes me giggle, Kelly. I know Limericks are supposed to be a bit shall we say naughty, but since I’m not a “real” poet, I figure I can get away with some variation. I like to think of your sis, her Shelties, and especially my Dallas enjoying this day as well!
Monkey is looking gorgeous and beautifully groomed, and deserves all the belly rubs he demands! Give him one from me, please! 😀
Do you know this greedy pup of mine would love for me to give him belly rubs from everybody?!? Thank you, FF, for contributing to the day’s festivities.
You did a great job! And Monk deserves a special day!
Aw, gee, thanks!!
I hope Monk got his good treats and extra belly scratches! 🙂 Clever limerick!
Thanks so much for stopping by — yes, he’s plenty spoiled!
