He who cannot forgive breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass. ~Proverb
My mama snaps a photo
As I sit and do my pose
She says that these are peonies
She might be right. Who knows?
Yes, they’re pretty, Mama,
You’re right about that, indeed.
But aren’t you forgetting something
Upon which we earlier agreed?
I said I’d pose for your camera
If you’d reward me in turn;
One special treat is all I ask,
Your forgetting that is a concern.
But I won’t hold it against you —
I’m forgiving just that way.
Next time, bring the good treats,
And maybe I’ll look your way!
Note: Poetry form is some kind of rhyming quatrains, I think.

A deal is a deal, right? A clever poem to remind you of an important agreement!
I Monkey agree, Miss Barbara. A deal’s a deal, and Mama needs to remember that!
“Next time, bring the good treats,
And maybe I’ll look your way!”
You tell her, Monk! Hopefully, she rewarded you with SEVERAL treats instead of just one.
I always enjoy your posts, Sir Monk. Wishing you and Mama a super-duper Sunday!
X to you both!
Well, Mr. Ron, I must admit she did give me treats … when we got home. But that’s a long time for a little monkey to go without a reward!
It’s warming/heating back up here, and the air conditioning is back on. Sigh. I still haven’t found the zipper or Velcro or button or whatever that fastens this hot coat to my body either. Good luck getting some cooling … maybe next week. Hugs and licks, I Monkey
You have a handsome profile, Monkey, and the flowers are a lovely backdrop for your photo!
That opening proverb is very good. We need more forgiveness in our world (among other things).
Why, thank you, Miss Kelly. I Monkey don’t normally see in profile, but it’s nice to hear mine looks okay! Mama was a bit leery of the ants that regularly are attracted by peonies, but she let me pose there anyway. She’d never find an ant on my coat, not as thick as it is — that’s why she’s so careful about ticks and tall grasses.
I love this poem, Monkey! I, Yorkie, suspect that you learned this skill from your Mama. Or is it a talent? Excellent proverb too. I enjoy your side profile, envy your healthy teeth and celebrate your charming smile! 🐾🐾
Hey Yorkie! I Monkey must tell you that Shelties usually have awful teeth, but Mama got blessed — I have great teeth and so did St. Dallas. Mama does NOT want the dogtur to give me anesthesia (Shelties don’t do well with that) and clean my teeth professionally, so she gives me lots of chew bones and crunchy cookies to scrape the plaque off. I’m happy to hear it’s working!
I think Mama will be kind enough to give you two treats next time, Monkey. Fun poem.
Thanks, Mr. John. I hope you’re right about the treats. I Monkey am fond (Mama would say “too fond”!) of my treats!!
I think all canines have that trait, Monkey.
This is a fine poem, Monkey — no doggerel for you! I’d throw in a few extra treats just for the poem, and maybe a nice, early morning walk to help you avoid the heat. It’s getting hot here again, too. Our “false autumn” has come and gone, but October is on the horizon!
Miss Linda, I Monkey hope you’re right about Fall being on the horizon. I’m so tired of this heat and humidity. Of course, our squirrels have been extra-busy, so perhaps they’re aware Fall is heading toward us, too? I’m glad you liked my little poem. I Monkey thrive with compliments!!
Handsome boy, beautiful flowers!
Thanks, Miss Eliza. I Monkey thought the flowers were nice, too!
Monkey, what a great poem! You’ve clearly inherited the gift from your mama! Haha, how could she forget the treat she promised – you should insist on getting two treats to make up for it. That seems only fair!
Ah, Miss FF, I Monkey agree that two treats would be lovely! I’m glad you think my poem was okay — I don’t usually write poetry, you know, but I guess I was kind of feeling the rhythm, heh heh!
Who knew you were such a great poet, Monkey? I look forward to reading more of your work!
Why, thank you, Miss Ann! You can’t see it, but I Monkey am blushing!!!
