The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too. ~Samuel Butler, English novelist and critic
One of the magazines I casually glanced through many years ago had a regular feature section called “Who Wears It Better?”
Apparently, the compiler photographed two celebrities on separate occasions sporting very similar outfits, yet one invariably came up short.
Maybe the style wasn’t as flattering on them as on the other person; maybe the color or accessories were wrong.
Anyway, I remembered a photo I’d taken of Dallas (circa 2016) and decided to see my two Shelties side by side in glasses. Monk is on the left; Dallas is on the right.
So, who wears those spectacles better?

Monk rocks those glasses, but Dallas looks good in them too.
Very tactfully said, Darlene! I find it hard to judge these two, too.
Monk looks young and trendy, Dallas looks older and distinguished.
I think both my boys would be happy with your critique, Barbara! Thanks for giving them both something to aim for.
I agree with Barbara! 😍
Well played, Eliza — I think it would be hard to rule either of them out!
Oh this is a fun post Monk! Yorkie here. Of course I say you, Monk, wears those spectacles better! Those specs are a perfect fit and perfect color on you. Unfortunately for Dallas, his specs are sliding off. So, you are the winner 🥇 in my heart today! 🐾🐾🍂
Thank you, Yorkie! I imagine the Monk would be on Cloud 9, thinking that somebody judges him better at something than St. Dallas was, ha!
Clearly, Monk is the corporate up-and-comer: in with the trends and as concerned with appearance as function. Dallas is the teacher or doctor: old enough to need a little visual support in the form of reading glasses, but clearly no nonsense!
I love your assessment, Linda!! Clearly, there’s no “right” or “wrong” here; in fact, I didn’t realize how different these two look until I saw their photos side by side. Funny, but they’re both purebred Shelties, and you’d think they’d look more alike. Your observation is spot on!!
It’s just like flowers: one genus can have species that are very nearly the same. Only a close look reveals the difference!
Both are adorable.
Aw, thank you, dear friend. Spoken like a true dog-lover!
😊
I like Barbara’s and shoreacres’ tactful comments. Both true!
Thank you, Kelly. I suppose that loving a pet means you can’t really “judge” one against a former pet, huh? Both are lovable in their own ways (and fit in with your particular stage of life).
Different eras, different styles. Both your fur kids were very stylish for their times.
Very diplomatic, Dawn! I know you agree that each pup must stand on its own merits. Some might be more of a challenge than others, but we love them ALL!
Oh, no, that’s like Sophie’s Choice! They both look equally gorgeous – very intellectual and I’m sure each of them is just about to pick up a good book and settle down for a long read. Dallas will be reading Hemingway, while Monk will be reading Garfield…
LOL! Well said, FF! I can imagine Dallas reading a bit of Hemingway (or maybe Dickens); Monk, on the other hand, might be more drawn to lighter fare (and Garfield would be a good choice!) Of course, with his short attention span, he’d be more likely to read short stories!
Debbie, as you know…I ADORED Dallas and thought it was the cutest; most handsomest Sheltie to ever walk this earth. And then when you got The Monk, I thought the exact same thing. I think you have an incredible talent for selecting the cutest; most handsomest Shelties because, personally, I think they BOTH wear the spectacles best – yet, different. Dallas looks more like a distinguished (and handsome) professor in his glasses, and The Monk looks more like the eager-to-learn (and cute) student.
LOVED this post, my friend!
X to you and The Monk
Hope you had a spectacular weekend. We’re presently getting some of my favorite weather here in Philly – a nor’easter!
Ron, my friend, you are so tactful! I can see where Dallas would appear as a professor, while Monk might be the mischievous student. Their personalities definitely were different — who’d have thought two purebred Shelties could be so unalike?!
I’ve been watching your nor’easter, and it looks like a wet mess; however, we sure could use some of that rain. Not all at once because it would just run off, but our area is suffering through a huge drought — so when you get tired of the wet, send some our way, okay? XX
Tried to comment. Not sure if it came through. Anyway, can’t choose!
I don’t blame you one bit — they’re BOTH cute!!
I’ve been having trouble with blogging on my phone, which is convenient way to keep up with blogs during the day. Hope to get thing sorted with WordPress soon.
