Do something.
I can’t.
I’m only one.
And there’s just
Too much to do.
I can’t erase poverty,
Can’t cure disease,
Can’t bandage the broken,
Can’t take away pain.
Do something.
I’m not sure.
I’m just me.
And there’s so much
I’m unqualified for.
I’m not a doctor,
Not a lawmaker,
Not an evangelist,
Not a researcher or hero.
Do something.
Well, all right,
If You insist.
If You’ll help.
I can hold somebody’s hand,
Dry somebody’s tears,
Listen. Be present.
I can donate to a cause,
I can be an encourager,
I can pray.
Now you’ve got the idea! Do something.
I don’t expect you
To do everything.
Just do something
And trust that I AM
Will handle the rest.
Working together
We can make a difference.
My precious child,
I love you so much!
The little we do goes a long way! Great piece!
Thank you, Tokoni, and welcome to my little corner of the world! I’m glad you enjoyed this one. Feel free to return any time!
Of course
Initiation
We have lost the safety in numbers .
Our security net is going under.
Our breaths are hooked on strange situations.
We are standing at the initiation.
Ah, lovely! Thank you for these beautiful words!
Hey I hope you don’t mind but I’d like to invite you to my blog at http://www.insanitybeautiful.wordpress.com
Hopping over there in just a few minutes — thanks for the link!
Ah, and the Butterfly Effect!
Yes, ma’am, you’re 100% correct! Thanks for dropping by — always nice to see your smiling face here!
Do something and make a difference. Great message. Everyone can do something and no act is too small. And you’ve done something, Debbie, just by writing and sharing this poem. 🙂
Thanks, Monica. Glad the message came across loud and clear! So many times, we feel small and helpless, when all we need do is try!
This poem is awesome, Debbie. Sometimes (most of the time, actually) it just looks too big.
Ah, Professor, you’re so right. I think that’s why so many of us opt to do nothing, because we feel that the little we can do is so insignificant. Well, shame on us! We all can do something. Thanks for your compliment and for popping by to visit — hope your Sunday is going well!
I know! The professor has no excuse. Rats. I like excuses.
Me, too! They kind of salve our consciences!
As my old sailing instructor used to say, “Don’t say, “I can’t.” Ask, “How can I?” It worked for sailing, and lo and behold, I’ve found it works for life, too.
Linda, your old sailing instructor was very wise! It’s all in the perspective, isn’t it? When we say we can’t, we shut down any possibility of finding solutions; however, opening our minds and hearts to possibility means we often find solutions where we thought there were none. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, my friend!
Lovely!
Thanks, Dawn — much appreciated!
This is beautiful, Debbie!! LOVE it. You have so much kindness in your heart, dear friend. Each of us can have an effect on the world xo
Bless you for saying that, my friend! While we might sometimes feel inconsequential, none of us really is when it comes to making an impact. Thanks for dropping by (and for connecting on Twitter!)
You leave me such beautiful comments, Debbie! Many smiles to you 🙂 I hope your weekend is fantastic!
Beautiful poem, Debbie. Its sentiment is very similar to a Matthew West song by the same name! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_RjndG0IX8
I’d never heard that one before, Terri, so thank you for the link. Obviously, I wouldn’t have tried to name my poem exactly the same thing as Matthew West’s song! Wow, isn’t it amazing how we can be completely oblivious when we think we’re being profound, ha!!
Lovely. I like the conversation. Keep it flowing, Debbie. You do…just fine.
What a lovely idea, Audrey. Thanks so much … for your friendship and your encouragement!
Debbie, I apologize for being late commenting on this post but I read it yesterday morning before work and was planning to stop by last night, but I must be losing my mind because I forgot. 😦
Anyway, what I wanted to say was this…
I love this poem for two reasons. One, you’re right…it’s not always the BIG things we do that have the most affect on others. Most times, it’s the small things that have a HUGE impact we might not even be aware of. And two, I loved this part…
“I don’t expect you
To do everything.
Just do something
And trust that I AM
Will handle the rest.
Working together
We can make a difference.
My precious child,
I love you so much!”
because when we work together WITH God, we CAN make a difference!
Fabulous post, my friend! Happy Monday!
X
Ron, any time you visit is a GOOD time, my friend! Thank you for such kind words — yes, we can’t do big things on our own, but we can with His help. Glad that part resonated with you. There’s got to be a reason why we’ve been planted where we are, don’t you agree?
Happy Monday to you as well. After yesterday’s sunshine, today’s clouds and rain are a bit depressing, but at least I’m not shoveling SNOW, ha!
Fantastically wonderful, Debbie!!! xx
Thank you, my sweet friend — glad it appealed to you! xoxo
Beautiful message, Debbie!
Thank you, Pat — so very glad you enjoyed it!
This is a great poem! Sometimes we think too big and think ourselves right into inaction because we realize we can’t change the world… but we can change someone’s world just by doing simple things.
Beautifully said, Janna — thanks!
