Grown don’t mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown? What’s that supposed to mean? In my heart it don’t mean a thing. ~Toni Morrison, Beloved, 1987
Mom–
The one
Who loves us
In spite of our
Flaws and prickliness.
The one who gave us life
And sacrificed her own hopes
To keep us happy, safe, and clean.
How can we ever thank her enough?
But perhaps she doesn’t need repayment.
Note: This poetic form is an Etheree. Today is my mom’s birthday (I won’t say how many!). Happy B-day, Mom!
HaPpY BIRTHDAY to your precious mom, Debbie! Wishing her lots of love, joy, peace & celebratory treats!!!! ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ง๐ซ๐๐๐ฐ๐ค๐
Thanks very much, Virginia — I’ll pass them along to her!
Not every Mom gets a poem for her birthday? Your poem’s a delight, and I’m sure the day will be for your Mom, too. Give her a good wish for me!
Linda, my late dad, upon being asked what he wanted for his birthday, always used to tell me to write him something. Didn’t matter whether it was a poem or a short story, or even a simple letter. Encouragement like that is something every kid can store up for a lifetime!
That’s wonderful! It certainly helped to shape you in the very best way possible!
He was a good man, and I still miss him!
What a lovely gift to your mom! Happy Birthday to her!
Thanks for your good wishes, Dawn — I’ll share them with my mom!
Happy Birthday to your Mom! How lovely to have a poem written just for her – not to mention the cake! Have a great day, both of you. ๐๐
Cake is always good, isn’t it?!? I think she was pleased by the poem, too!
Happy Birthday to your Mom, Debbie!
Love both the quote at the start of this post, and your poem. You are so clever with words!
And that cake look delicious. Reminds me of the cakes we had when I was a kid with that nice, thick icing. And I would always ask for a rose. LOL!
Have a great rest of your week, my friend! X
Domer likes the roses, too, Ron — all that gooey icing! Thanks for dropping by to help make my mom’s B-day special. She’s enjoying all the attention! xo
Happy Birthday, Mom. Super poem, Debbie.
Thank you so much, John. She’s just glad I didn’t announce her age, ha!!
She is probably my age.
HaHa, funny!!
Happy Birthday Mom from Cincinnati. I would love a piece of that cake. ๐ Well done poem Debbie!
How delightful for Mom to get birthday wishes from so many places — thank you, Frank! I’ve been to Cincinnati — only once, but I really liked it. Here, I’ll send you a slice of cake virtually — it was delicious!!
Yum!
Happy birthday to your mother!
Thanks, Ann — I’ll pass the good wishes along!
Aw, Debbie, this is such a precious poem. Happy birthday to your Mother. As a Mother myself yes I know it is true age has nothing to do with how we feel for our Mothers. God bless you and your Mom!! xo
Thanks very much for stopping by and offering such lovely wishes for my mom’s birthday!
You’re welcome!! SMILE! xo
Your mom is lucky to have a very good daughter like you ๐ Happy Birthday and greetings from Italy ๐ท๐ผ๐ป๐บ๐น๐ต๐ธ
From Italy? Really? How cool is that? I’m half-Italian (you’d never guess by my profile pic, but it’s for real!) I’ll pass your lovely greeting on to my mom — thank you for stopping by … and letting me meet you!
Oh that’s great! it is always exciting to know that there is someone of Italian origin in the world. ๐๐ค๐ค๐ค
