A smile is as good as a prayer… ~Abigail May Alcott, American artist and youngest sister of author Louisa May Alcott
People’s laps are chairs
For puppies to sit upon
Comforting for both
Note: This is another installment of the Thankful Thursday series, designed to focus on gratitude. Poetry form is Haiku.

We done showing Monkey’s soft side.
Aw, Frank, he’s becoming a real softie!
Yes, yes! And both the picture and the haiku made me smile.
Glad to have made you smile, Laurie. Thanks for telling me (it looks good on you!!)
Sweet! 💕
He definitely can be sweet — when he’s not up to “monkey-business”!!
Of course! 😉
The three parts of your post echo the structure of a haiku: three lines in the poem, accompanied by a great quotation, an appealing photo, and the poem itself. Well done!
Thanks for pointing that out, Linda. I assure you, I didn’t do it on purpose! In fact, I rather wish I’d been that clever intentionally, ha!
Yorkie says yes it is comforting for both. Monkey you are so handsome that your smile glimmers. Our hair is the same trio shades glowing.
Is Yorkie’s hair the same color as Monk’s? Wow, that’s so cool, TD! Right now, the Monk is having “the itchies” and is scratching himself to bits. I’ve got to get him to the vet and see what’s going on. It’s always something, you know.
Oh no, not “the itches”! Have your figured out what is the cause? 🐾🐾❤️
We went to his vet yesterday, and it seems he has some kind of allergy. She gave him some medicine, so our fingers (and paws!) are crossed that it works.
Yes our paws and fingers are crossed that this medicine works! Certainly we are relieved to know that the itches are not the fleas, mites, or bug!!🤞🐾🐾❤️❤️
Debbie, both your words AND that photograph of the Monk (who has the cutest face ever) were perfect for this Thankful Thursday post! I also love the quote you shared at the top.
Happy Thursday, my friend!
X to you and the Monk!
Your lovely compliment makes me blush, Ron — thank you! He does have a sweet face, and I love his Sheltie smile.
I didn’t realize that Abigail Alcott was the inspiration for the character Amy in the Little Women book her sister Louisa wrote. Abigail was an artist and died before her 40th birthday — how sad to have lived such a short life.
We’ve been having such a gorgeous, on-the-cool-side week; hope we can share some of it with y’all! XX
Debbie, I didn’t know that about the character Amy in the Little Women book (which I LOVED the movie(s)), so thanks for sharing!
Yup, we just got hit with some on-the-cool-side as well. 🙂
I didn’t see the movie, but I loved the book when I was younger (it’s been a while since I read it!)
Oh, I love this!! He looks so sweet and innocent there!
Kelly, looks can be so deceiving! For sure, he’s aptly named — he delights in plenty of “monkey-business”!!
Monkey looks adorable. Loved your poem, Debbie.
Thanks, John. It’s amazing how much he gets away with, being so cute and all.
I’ll bet. 😁
Adogable.
Thanks, Cindy — glad you liked it!
Truth! What a nice portrait of Monkey! 🙂
Aw, thanks for saying so, Barbara. He’s kind of a captive subject when he’s in my lap!
Who knew Monkey was so talented? But he writes great poetry!
HaHa, a dog of many talents! This is a dog that loves a lap; he’d be glued to me all day if I let him. I keep trying to convince him there should be “spaces in our togetherness,” but he’s not convinced.
Dogs rarely are…….
