And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~Kahlil Gibran, Lebanese-American writer, poet, and philosopher
I Monkey here.
It’s time for Walktober, something I look forward to as soon as it’s announced! And when Penny’s mom Dawn announced it, I was ready.
Mama picked that dumb quote up top, thinking we’d have a windy day, but she was wrong. It was beautiful — sunny and around 60 degrees — just perfect for a jaunt through my park.
St. Dallas never Walktobered here, so I thought it would be ideal to share it with you. Let’s GO!!!
Here am I, nose to the ground, trying to get Mama to hurry:

See my new harness? Mama got it for me, thinking my old one was causing bald spots and “the itchies.” I don’t know if this one’s helping, but I like it!
Mama figured you’d all like to see some trees. Why? Who knows. They’re not exactly wearing colorful dresses yet:
But you’re tired of trees, right? And this walk is all about ME, so let’s get cracking!
Here I am, checking out this artsy circle. No clue what it’s supposed to represent, but there were some interesting smells nearby:
Mama, what’s wrong with these children? They don’t seem to want to touch me … or even to move! And they’re fenced in, too:
Here’s something interesting — one of those little free libraries. The sign said to take a book and leave a book. Wonder what treasures lurk within:
Oh, look, it’s a new bird neighborhood! Seems there are several vacancies here — bet they’ll be rented by Spring:
It was perfect weather, and there were LOTS of dogs out walking their humans. Here’s a Boston Terrier named Mickey, who thinks we’re big friends (sometimes I’m not so sure because we ruckus when we get together):
Mama wanted me to pose in this gazebo-thing, but I didn’t think so. C’mon, Mama, you know The Rule: one pose, one treat. You’re the one who forgot my cookies. Yeah:
Here’s an easy one. Who’s cuter, me or Dino:
This is the water part of my park. They won’t let dogs swim here, but Mama says I’d probably sink anyway, what with my double coat:
Mama loves ornamental grasses. Maybe she’ll plant some one of these days:
Here are some red trees. The weather guys say the yellow ones turn color first and the red ones later. Maybe that’s why they’re special:
I didn’t particularly want to walk on this little bridge, but Mama insisted (that was before I knew she’d left my cookies at home!):
And I Monkey will leave you to ponder this quote attributed to American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson — “Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” Oh, look, it says so right here:
That’s all, folks. Hope you enjoyed my third Walktober. I probably should remind slowpoke Mama to get her own Walktober done, huh?I’m already contemplating next year. I’ll be four-going-on-five then, and I see big things in my future. Now, it’s time for my snooze.
Love, Monkey

Well, Monkey, your Mama was right, I love seeing trees! It’s the same here, not much color yet. That bird neighborhood is fascinating. I’d love to sit on that bench in the spring and see who lives there. You are definitely cuter than Dino!
Aw, thank you, Miss Barbara. I Monkey am glad I’m not extinct like Dino. And yes, I imagine Mama would love seeing which birds move into that neighborhood, too.
Monkey, being that I was born in October and my love of Autumn, I always look forward to your Walktober posts!
AWESOME photos! Like you, we have not gotten much color on our trees as of yet, but am looking forward to it. We need a nice “cold snap” to get them in gear.
That artsy circle looks like a meditation walk circle. I’ve seen them before.
The grocery store I shop has one of the take a book and leave a book boxes which is located at the entrance of the store.
And hands down, you are MUCH, MUCH cuter than Dino! And by the way, I love your new harness. Very sharp dresser you are!
“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” — love that quote. And I agree.
Thanks so much for sharing today, Monkey. Very much enjoyed. X to you and Mama! Have a superb Sunday!
Mr. Ron, I Monkey am glad you like my new harness. I understand you have a flair for stylish things (working in the beauty industry and acting on stage), so I value your approval!
Thank you for the info on the meditation walk circle. I had Mama look that up, and she thinks you’re right. I Monkey have never seen anybody in my park actually using it, but then, I’m not there all the time.
Mama says she’s waiting a bit to do her Walktober — in hopes the trees will put on more color. I Monkey told her not to wait too long, or the only thing she’ll find is bare branches, hee hee. XX
A super walk, Monkey. I’m glad we got to see a little of your neighborhood. I like your harness and hope it helps with the itchies.
Mr. John, I Monkey hope my new harness works, too. Mama is especially happy I can’t slip out of it — I think she’s afraid of losing me!
Yes she treasures you, Monkey.
So much good stuff in this post! I enjoyed seeing all the photos, especially the ones with you in them, Monkey! My favorites might be the one with the dino, followed by you and Mickey.
Both of the quotes are very good, too!
Thank you, Miss Kelly. I Monkey am happy you enjoyed my walk. And I’m especially happy I got it done when I did (seeing as how today I’ve developed a case of diarrhea, making poor Mama play clean-up again).
Nice Walktober tour, Monkey… bummer about the forgotten biscuits… she owes you one (or a few)!
Miss Eliza, I Monkey totally agree — she owes me way more than one. I mean, look how many pictures she took of me (and that’s not counting the ones I wouldn’t let her use because they weren’t exactly flattering, ha!!)
🙂
That was a lovely Walktober, Monkey – thanks for taking us along! Imagine Mama forgetting your treats! I hope she made it up to you when you got home! You’re definitely cuter than Dino, and your new harness is swish! How are the itchies?
Oh, Miss FF, I Monkey am still itching. Mama has a call in to my dogtur, but she’s not too confident we’ll get much help. Too bad I can’t do what Mama does and take one Allegra every day.
Oh, poor Monkey! I hope the dogtur can come up with a solution – nothing is more uncomfortable than a persistent itch.
Yes, ma’am. I Monkey got a shot for it this afternoon — paws crossed, that works!
Apart from your Mama forgetting your cookies, this was a fine walk! I especially liked the first glimpses of color (I never get tired of trees of any sort!) but it was fun seeing your encounter with those silly, unmoving children, and nice to be introduced to one of your dog-friends. You certainly outshine that dinosaur when it comes to attractiveness — I’d pet you in a minute, but have no desire at all to pet the dino!
Thank you, Miss Linda! I Monkey am glad I entertained you. Those stony children were a puzzle. How much nicer to meet and greet moving people and pups! And as for my treats? Well, I was most unhappy about that, but I think I’ve got Mama trained for next Walktober. It’s in the contract, you know: one cookie per pose. Huh.
Oh Monkey! What a FINE Walktober you had! That is a lovely park and I so enjoyed seeing it through your eyes….er…nose. And it’s no contest, you are MUCH cuter than that dino!
Wall, thank you, Miss Dawn! I’m happy I look better than Dino … even with my bald spots. Of course, you can’t really see them — Mama does the comb-over thing — but they’re there. I was doing better on Miss Penny’s Dermaquin until I got the diarrhea and had to lay off it for a bit. Poor Mama is really frustrated by all my scratching (and so am I).
Awww Monkey, you must be miserable. Penny says she will send you sheltie kisses so you feel better.
Thanks, Miss Penny! I Monkey am a dog who needs LOTS of love!!
Thanks for sharing the lovely photos of your walk, Monkey! And I think you look quite spiffy in that harness.
Thank you, Miss Ann. This is the third harness poor Mama has tried on me, and I hope it works. She doesn’t want me making the great escape, you know!
Monkey, I so enjoyed this walk with the trees, the grass, but most of all you. I smiled every time I saw a picture of you. And there is no contest between you and the dinosaur. You are definitely the winner.
Hee Hee, thanks, Miss Laurie. I Monkey won’t tell Dino when Mama takes me back to my park! I’m glad my pictures gave you cause to smile. Now, if only I can get Mama trained to bring the cookies with her when we do something like this….
