Greening and Pinking

To this day, color is an enormous delight to me. It means experience, adventure of all kinds. ~Harry Behn, American screenwriter

When

You walk

With a dog

Outside in Spring,

You can’t help but see

That the world around us

Is greening and turning pink,

As new life bursts into color,

Trees shed their spent flowers, and sidewalks

Become magical pathways of beauty.

Note: Poetry form is Etheree.

  1. Green and pink is a favorite color combination for me, and this petaled pathway winding past the lawns is especially pretty. I noticed something about your etheree that’s tickled me in the past. Your next to last line is longer on the page than the last line, despite the syllable count being exactly right. It’s a reminder that all syllables aren’t exactly the same length; ‘the’ is a one syllable word, but so is ‘green,’ or ‘brought.’

    • HaHa, your powers of observation amaze me, Linda! I guess I’d never thought about that second-to-last line appearing longer than the final line, but you’re spot on. As you pointed out, it all comes down to how many long, one-syllable words we use. I’m still trying to get the hang of Etheree-writing. I fear that’s going to be a lifelong quest, sigh.

  2. That’s really pretty…and so true. In fact I have a dog whining at the door that I need to go walk. Hope I see something pretty. Almost guaranteed this time of year.

    • Indeed. We just got back from our walk. It’s sad how many dogs are indoors barking at us … and probably wishing they, too, were outside walking!

  3. Sweet poem Debbie! This is a beautiful picture. Did Monkey and you walk through this pink and green? It must have been quite magical!

Yorkie and I went on our neighborhood street walk today. Just to each end and back. That is all I could do today. Though we did not see as much colorful beauty as you, we saw a neighbor’s red rose bush gushing with blooms and we did welcome the beautiful lovely weather day!

Glad we are both on the other side of winter.🌹

    • “The other side of winter.” What a perfect way to say that, TD! I’m visualizing that red rose bush overflowing with blooms, and I’m thinking what a delicious sight — and smell — that must have been. This is a wonderful time of year, for long or short walks!

Debbie I LOVE this! You are so talented with words! It’s so ironic you posted about Spring and the colors it brings, because my next post is all about color!

Thanks for sharing Spring, my friend! Wishing you a super Monday and week!

    • Ron, I’m eager to experience your Spring, too! You always find such interesting things to photograph. I’m glad you enjoyed walking with me and the Monk. This pleasant weather is just perfect for him — a long-haired dog suffers when the heat and humidity are high, but we’ve had a lovely streak and are taking advantage of it!
