Walking With Joy

What a significance wild flowers have, more than the tamed productions of the garden! They seem Heaven’s own messengers sent straight to man to bear glad tidings of universal and undying love. ~Henry James Slack, English journalist, activist, and science writer

Dancing flowers —

Pink, yellow, and blue —

Can’t help but make me smile

As I take my daily walk.

So much color! So much beauty!

I wonder if the homeowner knew

His patch of posies would bring so much joy?

  1. Debbie, BEAUTIFUL photo….BEAUTIFUL words! I literally smiled while reading this poem because you’re right, these colorful flowers DO look like they’re dancing! Isn’t the beauty of nature GRAND?

Thanks for sharing your walk, my friend! Have a SUPER Sunday! X

P.S. We finally got some relief from the intense heat and humidity. But it’s not going to last long because this coming week it returns. 😦

    • Ron, I’m so happy I was able to share this with you … and that it made you happy, too! Somebody must have spent some time sowing the seeds or putting the baby flowers in the ground, for this is the first time I’ve noticed them (and the Monk and I walk this route pretty often).

I’m sorry your weather relief was short-lived, my friend. They’ve been warning us for days that next week is going to be dreadful. HOT and HUMID, with “feels-like” temps around 110 degrees. Ugh, can you imagine?? No way I’ll be walking poor Monk in this weather. Not with his double coat of fur. We’ll be draped over the A/C vents, ha! XX

  2. Your etheree surely does capture the beauty and fun of these flowers. It occurs to me that the photo’s proof that a hundred acre estate — or even a big suburban property — isn’t necessary for flowers to provide pollen and enjoyment. Small can be beautiful, and this fenceline surely is!

    • Linda, I didn’t see any pollinators swarming over this patch of flowers, but I imagine they’ll find it soon enough. And you know, even a small effort to attract pollinators is a good thing!

    • You’re so lucky!! The Monk and I found this patch on one of our walks, making me wish I’d planted some seeds in the Spring so I could enjoy the view every day!

  3. That’s a lovely poem for the beautiful row of flowers along the fence. I really like that quotation about wildflowers, too. We don’t plant flowers (the exception being our day lilies and azaleas), so I always keep an eye out for the wildflowers on my walks. One of God’s little gifts!

    • Thank you, Kelly. Isn’t it nice getting to enjoy the flowers that somebody else has planted … without having to worry about caring for them?!?
