There once was a saucy butterfly
Who clung to a bush by and by
He fluttered his wings
And did everything
To catch a pretty miss’s eye.

Love the limerick! And unless I’m mistaken (always possible) I think that’s the butterfly bush you’ve mentioned. It’s beautiful, and clearly is well named! I always enjoy seeing swallowtails; you’re lucky to be drawing them to your yard.
Linda, when I practice my flute, I can watch butterflies, moths, bees, etc. flitting around this bush, and yes, it gives me such delight! So much prettier — and more useful — than the pile of weeds we had removed.
Debbie, both your photograph and clever Limerick are delightful! As I’ve shared in the past, you are so clever with words!
“And did everythingTo catch a pretty miss’s eye.”
LOVED that!
Have a superb Sunday, my friend! X
Thanks, Ron, I’m delighted you enjoyed them! These nice, warm, sunny days of late Spring are perfect for the butterflies, but we sure do need some rain. Hope your Sunday is going smoothly! XX
cute limerick, and pretty butterfly.
Thanks so much for dropping by, Dawn. I’m glad this post brought a smile to your face!
Love the limerick! Great capture of those spindly legs supporting the butterfly on the delicate blossom!
His legs do look pretty spindly, don’t they? Good thing he’s not doing a ton of walking! Thanks for the comment, Barbara — it makes me happy to hear you enjoyed the post.
Fun limerick, beautiful butterfly!
Thanks so much, Laurie — I’m happy to share them with all of you!
Terrific photo and Limerick, Debbie.
Thank you, John. I haven’t written a Limerick in ages, but the butterfly provided nice inspiration.
Yes, it is a good-looking butterfly.
👏🏼 💜
Glad you liked my post, Eliza!!
Very pretty butterfly and flowers! I hope it did catch the miss’s eye! I love the river rock contrast too!! Great poem to tell his story!!! 🥰
Thank you, TD — I’m glad he impressed you, too! I didn’t realize butterfly bushes would live up to their name the way this one does!
Limericks can be tricky. Good job with yours AND good job capturing the butterfly! (which can also be tricky)
LOL! I’m a bit rusty in writing Limericks, but an Irish girl should be able to do so, don’t you think?!? As for the butterfly, the trick was getting him to stay still enough — I couldn’t bribe him with a treat the way I do the Monk!
What a gorgeous butterfly – I’ve never seen a black one! And your limerick is perfect for it!
Glad you liked them, FF — he was certainly a beauty!
