Walking with Monkey 2025

October sunshine bathed the park with such a melting light that it had the dimmed impressive look of a landscape by an old master. Leaves, one, two at a time, sidled down through the windless air. ~Elizabeth Enright, American writer, illustrator, literary critic, and teacher

I Monkey here.

After I upchucked my lunch, Mama decided we should go on my Walktober (something about her being okay with vomit outdoors but NOT okay with it inside on her carpet — huh).

Don’t feel sorry for me, though. After everything was up, I felt just fine and was raring to GO. Tag along while I show you some of our Fall color (such as it is).

Let’s go, Mama — gee, you’d think she was the one vomiting!!

Here’s a red tree with lots of green still hanging around:

And if you’re partial to orange, look at this big fella:

Or maybe you prefer yellow:

I told Mama you’d probably like some Fall decorations, too. Not the creepy skeletons and witches, but something tamer. Who doesn’t like pumpkins and mums?

And since it is Fall, I couldn’t let this one slip by. There’s a set of twins living here — we guess their high school buddies weren’t impressed by the mock graveyard and decided to paper the yard:

It’s funny how some trees are just beginning to turn, while others are nearly bare:

Here’s pokey Mama again, trying hard to get an artsy picture. C’mon, Mama, does anybody really need to see more leaves, when there are so many interesting smells around?

This is different. I think it’s called prairie grass, but who cares when it tickles as you pass it by?

Mama says we did my Walktober too late to capture what must’ve been a brilliant red tree:

But this one made up for it:

And somebody better get out their rake:

All right! Another successful walk and not a speck of vomit!

I Monkey hope you enjoyed our excursion. Get out and take a walk of your own, post about it, and hook it up to the Official Walktober Post so Dawn will know to include you. We all want to see where your travels took you!

Signing off,

Monkey your walking guide

  1. There’s nothing like a little fresh air to make a body of any sort feel better, and when you throw in some pretty things to look at, it’s even better. Thanks for sharing your neighborhood views with us — and I hope you’re feeling better!

    • That’s what Mama says, too, Miss Linda! Apparently, lots of dog owners must have heard that as well, for I Monkey found all sorts of interesting smells. And you know? Mama and I have a pretty good deal going on — she pauses to take a picture while I wait, then I pause to sniff while she waits. It works for us!

  2. You had a fabulous walk, Monkey! Look at all the beautiful things you saw! I bet you’re glad you went, even if your tummy was a bit upset. We hope you feel better very soon! I’ll be sure to include your walk on the list!

    • Thanks for including me, Miss Dawn. Mama says she was going to take me some place special, but when I upchucked, all bets were off. She did, however, take me to the dogtur, who said I Monkey have acid reflux. Can you imagine? And here, I thought I was perfect. Huh!

  3. You and your mama sure saw a lot of beautiful fall color on your October walk, Monkey! I like every color, but those yellows are especially gorgeous! Our leaves are just starting to turn, so I’m glad you shared yours to get me excited for what’s ahead.

    • Thank you, Miss Kelly. I Monkey am happy you enjoyed our Fall colors, and I’ll be sure to pass that information along to Mama (she’s the one who takes the photos, you know, because puppies don’t have thumbs!). I do hope your area gets some nice coloring as well because then, we’ll be able to enjoy another Fall!

  4. “(something about her being okay with vomit outdoors but NOT okay with it inside on her carpet — huh).”

Monk, you CRACK ME UP!!! And I’m beyond happy to read that you felt just fine afterwards. Sometimes you just gotta upchucked and get rid of the nasty stuff, right?

FABULOUS Walktober photos! Please tell Mama she did a great job in capturing the beauty of Fall.

But I’m jealous because we haven’t had any signs of Fall color in the city, as of yet. I’m hoping to take a train trip outside the city this week, to see if I will see some color change in the burbs.

    *fingers crossed*

LOVE the shot of the cute pumpkins and mums. I have little baby pumpkins, which I got at Trader Joe’s throughout this month, all around my studio apartment. Whenever I look at them, I smile 🙂

The picture of the toilet paper instantly reminded me of when I was a kid and we would do the same thing in our neighborhood, this time of year. We used to call it “Mischief Night”.

    That red tree is stunning!

Thank you (and Mama) for sharing this post. And yes, I thoroughly enjoyed your excursion.

Happy Monday, and have a fabulous fall week!

    X

    • Mr. Ron, I Monkey am thrilled you enjoyed my Walktober! Mama had big plans to take me someplace special — someplace St. Dallas never got to go to — but the upchucking nixed that. Sigh. Still, it’s nice to feel better by turning loose of the nasties!

Mama will be happy to hear you liked the photos. The weather folks seem to think we’re at peak leaf-peeping right now, but Mama says there’s still a whole lot of green going on. We’re hoping for some much-needed rain this week, with some cooler temps to follow.

Happy Fall to you, kind sir! Licks and furry hugs, Monkey

  5. What a lovely autumn walk you had, Monkey! I am very partial to orange (in the fall) and loved the orange leaves in the picture your mom took. It’s an orange with a lot of brown in it, which tones it down in a pleasing way, for my eyes, anyway. I also like the picture with the blue and white sky, contrasted with the bare branches, leading over to the gradient colors of green, gold, and orange leaves. Beautiful! Can you tell autumn is my favorite season? Thanks so much for sharing this gorgeous walk for Walktober.

    • Miss Barbara, Fall is Mama’s favorite time of year, too. It’s usually better weather here (less humidity, cooler temperatures, and nothing “active” like tornadoes or wicked storms). The stunning colors are lagniappe (which Mama says means “something extra” and “free.”)

  6. Well, Monkey, you certainly took your mom on a wonderful walk to see magnificent colors! I bet it was a lot of fun showing your mom all those things! Penny says you did a great job and she’s going to make sure I get your walk into our recap post, coming out sometime in November! Thanks for playing along!

    • Miss Dawn, I’m glad I was able to play along, considering my unpredictable tummy and all. Tell Miss Penny she’s lucky not to have this acid reflux stuff. One minute I’m fine; the next, my lunch is on the floor (or carpet), and I don’t know how it got there. Mama will be looking for your roundup post — it’s always interesting to see where people take us!

  7. What a lovely walk you had, Monkey! I hope there were lots of interesting scents to sniff and that your mom let you have all the time you wanted to do so. And don’t worry about the vomiting thing. People make too much of it. We dogs know that vomiting simply gets rid of what’s bothering us, and afterwards, we feel just fine! Love, Finn

    • Exactly!! Thank you, Finn, for confirming what I Monkey have been trying to convince Mama of. That vomiting isn’t such a big deal after all. She gets all bent out of shape when it comes out on her carpet, but it’s not like I can control that!

  8. Walking Guide Monkey! Yorkie here. You now have an official title. My mama’s sitting on the sofa laughing out loud while I Yorkie read your post to her.

Mamas are certainly finicky when it comes to our indoor landscape! You couldn’t make it to the tile floor where it is a bit easier on your mama to clean? We don’t have any carpet here, so I don’t know anything about carpet.

I Yorkie love the red, orange, yellow with the speckles of green trees. We have lots of cemeteries here, but none with toilet trees.

The spooky pet cemetery with the human skeleton riding a Great Dane Doggo skeleton makes my mama laugh when we walk in our neighborhood. I Yorkie see nothing funny about that! I much prefer your mums and pumpkins!

The dogtur said you have acid reflux!?! What’s that? I certainly hope it is not contagious through mama’s iPhone. Yikes 😱. That sounds awful and Halloween 👻 Scary 👻. Better run!

    🐾🐾🎃🐾🐾

    • Hiya, Yorkie! I Monkey am right with you on the pumpkins and mums. Those scary skeletons — especially the dog ones — make me tremble with fear.

Acid reflux is something some people get, too. It’s when your food comes right back up before it gets down to where it’s supposed to go. People, Mama says, sometimes get it when they eat spicy things. I Monkey don’t eat spicy, so I don’t know where it came from. Maybe my ongoing anxiety?? Nope, it’s not contagious, so you’re safe, little friend. I Monkey am sticking close to Mama tonight and hoping the little Trick-or-Treaters won’t stop by in their scary costumes, begging for candy!

      • So good to hear AR isn’t contagious Monkey. My mama says when I Yorkie upchuck I look like I loose all my dignity.

Mama was surprised to see so many trick-or-treaters last night. After our glorious day watching a Monarch Butterfly migration, we settled on the front porch until the first group of tiny creatures appeared. Mama didn’t have any candy. I Yorkie went inside to sleep in my Luxury bed while mama hid behind the curtains to keep a watch out for our safety!

When she saw TWO BATDOGGOS she ran to my sweet potato treats! Yes mine!! Out the door she flew with my treats in her hand. The two ladies in University uniforms insisted that the BATDOGGOS sit.

Out the window I saw my mama give those BATDOGGOS my sweet potato treats!! I Yorkie was in distress. What if a the BATDOGGOS bite mama!?! Or mama-nap her away from me!?!

Relief was my reward treat when I Yorkie saw mama back inside our home sweet home announcing that she paid-off the BATDOGGOS for our safety!

Did you Monkey have any scary moments? 🎃🦇
        🐾🐾

        • Batdoggos?? What in the world is that? I Monkey have never heard of such a thing — it sounds dangerous! And sharing your special treats with them? Oh Yorkie, I wouldn’t be happy about that … at all!

Mama kept the porch lights OFF during the Halloween-ing hours, so no, we had no visitors. However, the next day, when Mama took me for my walk, she had to be extra-vigilant, or I’d scoop up some of those candy leftovers the kids dropped. Then, she got some gooey stuff on her new shoes, and she wasn’t a happy camper. I Monkey am just glad that wasn’t MY fault, hee hee!!

  9. Hey Debbie and Monkey. Penny is insisting that I put a picture of HER in the Walktober Recap…cause she says a post without pictures is boring. Would you like a picture of you, Monkey in the post too? I could use the one in your Walktober, or another one if your mom sends me one. Here’s my email if she wants to do that.

    • Oh hey, that’s cool, Miss Dawn. I Monkey would be happy to help you make your Walktober Recap spiffy! Why don’t you just use the photo Mama took of me on my walk? That’s probably easiest, huh?
