On Forgiveness

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. ~Mahatma Gandhi

I’m

Angry.

Frustrated

At pettiness.

This silent treatment

Is getting more than old.

Same argument as before

With no resolution in sight.

Surely we can do better than that.

#

Like clouds boiling in a darkened sky

Our emotions take center stage.

What we need to remember

Is why we’re together

And how strong we are

When united.

Let’s forgive

Again,

Love.

  1. Powerful poem, Debbie. Sometimes when petty stuff stacks up, I remember Robben Island & Nelson Mandela’s forgiveness that enabled him to unite a country divided.

    • Great example, Virginia — thank you! I think we’re all called to overcome the petty stuff. Blessings and hugs from Central Illinois!

  2. Debbie the picture you chose to go with your powerful and inspiring words about forgiveness go perfect together! I also love the quote you shared by Gandhi!

It’s so true, it takes strength to forgive. To be honest, forgiveness is not something that comes easy to me. Depending upon the situation and what exactly happened between myself and the other person(s), my struggle is in “trusting” them again. I’m a very loyal person to friends and family members who I love very much. So when that loyalty is disrespected, it takes time for me to trust again. I’m just be honest.

FAB post, my friend! Have a fabulous week!

    • Ron, might that be the Italian in you?? I’m half Italian, too, and we tend to love fiercely … and shun just as fiercely. It’s something my dad never fully understood. He was more of a live and let live kind of guy. Genes are funny things and the disparity between nationalities can be striking.

I know what you mean about trusting. Yes, it’s awfully hard to get past some hateful things said and done to us, often under the guise of love. And frankly, some people just don’t seem to deserve our loyalty or trust. ‘Tis a puzzlement, as the King of Siam said!

Enjoy your week, my friend. xx

  3. Wonderful Gandhi quote and poem to go with it! This is very true, Debbie, pettiness is pathetic, but many times we can get swept up in it. I loved the imagery of the boiling clouds. Nice poem 😀

  4. A wonderful poem, in content — and look at that form! Am I grinning, or what? Good for you! It’s very well done. Etheree would be proud of you, girl! It really worked well. I’ve not done a double yet. Now you’re inspiring me!

    • Is that what it’s called, a double Etheree? Trust me, I had NO idea! Just beginner’s dumb luck. Thanks for educating me this morning, and I’m glad you liked my initial effort. Who knows? Maybe I’ll give it a whirl again some other day!!
