Three bales of straw later (and fingers crossed this works!):

It should!
Fingers crossed! It’s supposed to rain — quite a bit — this week, so we will see.
Fingers crossed!
You bet, Frank! If the ground would stay frozen, we wouldn’t have this issue (but that would be a problem of an entirely different sort, right?!)
Yahooooooooooooo, Debbie! Fingers crossed. I have a good feeling that it WILL work!
Have a terrific Tuesday, my friend! X
Ron, I hope your good feeling proves true. I’m so tired of MUD that I could scream, ha! xx
Looks promising! Wondering what Monkey will think of your latest project. 😉
Barbara, Monkey isn’t fazed a bit with all that straw! In fact, he kind of seems to like it (maybe it’s that sweet, “country” smell?!!)
And you not only have addressed the problem, you’ve done it in a way that’s rather attractive. It’s a win/win!
I’m glad somebody else likes it, too, Linda! I do find that lovely, golden straw to be more pleasing a sight than a wad of nasty mud. And Monkey, who’s grown somewhat reticent over the entire area, now ventures across it … probably happy not to hear me reprimanding him!
Fingers crossed that it works as well for you as it did for me.
Thank you, Laurie, for the suggestion. It backs up what Monkey’s groomer told me (that it worked for her dogs), so I do hope it’s successful!
Keep us posted!
So far, so good! We had nearly an inch of rain last night and early this morning (Thursday). The straw held, and Monkey’s paws are damp — but NOT muddy. Woo Hoo!!!
Yay! The tree will like the mulch, too. 🙂
I hadn’t thought much about the tree, Eliza, but I’ll bet you’re right. It’s been ever so long that we even bothered with that entire section of the back yard. I’m kind of liking how it looks now!
Looks like a good solution, Debby. Let’s hope so.
Me, too, John. Me too. Something’s got to do the trick. This was a lot of work, but so are muddy paws!

So far, so good! Fingers still crossed though.
