Fall 2023 Wanes Beautifully

…I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house. So I have spent almost all the daylight hours in the open air. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, American novelist and short story writer

How I relate to Mr. Hawthorne’s thoughts!

It seems like Autumn arrived late here, perhaps because everybody was eager for it to chase away the heat, humidity, and drought; but when it finally came (and despite fears to the contrary), it was simply glorious. (“Was” being the operative word — as I post this, we’ve passed “peak” color and are fast headed to Winter).

But I’ve compiled a little slide show (a dozen photos) so you can see some of our Fall trees. Please enjoy!

  1. Debbie, I too can relate to Mr. Hawthorne’s thoughts!

This past week was the first time I actually saw signs of fall in the city and was beyond happy. I plan on going out to the burbs this week in the hopes of seeing more.

GORGEOUS slidshow! The color you captured is A-MAZING!

Thanks for sharing my favorite season in your area, my friend. Thoroughly enjoyed!

    Happy Monday! X

    • Ron, I do hope you’ll find some Fall color, photograph it, and include it in a post so we all can enjoy it. We’ve passed peak color here. Yes, there are still gorgeous reds and golds to see, but too many trees have already dropped their leaves, and too many others are turning a rusty brown. It won’t be long before Winter sets in.

Hope you enjoy the week ahead! xx

  2. Lovely colours, Debbie! We kind of bypassed autumn this year – straight from a ridiculously late summer into the storms of winter! We never quite know what season it will be from week to week these days…

    • Oh, I do hate the thought of bypassing Autumn — it’s my favorite season! All the pretty colors, the cooler (without being COLD!) weather, and the scarcity of storms make it practically ideal in my book.

  3. Beautiful photos in your slideshow!! I love fall foliage and we don’t always get a good show. We’re much later than you, but some of our trees are starting to look quite pretty.

    • Thanks so much, Kelly — I’m glad you enjoyed them. One nice thing about being online friends with people across the world is getting to savor the changing seasons again and again!

  4. Beautiful photos, Debbie. We in Texas don’t get the change of color. Our live okas stay green, and the deciduous trees more or less turn brown, so I appreciated seeing your color display.

  5. I enjoy the half-undressed trees as much as the full displays. A couple of the photos with the yellow leaves scattered across the still green grass are just marvelous. We may have nice flowers still blooming, but your trees look like huge flowers, gloriously colored!

    • Thank you for pointing that out, Linda. I, too, like the contrast between the amazing reds and golds with the still-green grass and the clear blue sky. We’ve got one more warmish day before a cold front brings in more chill — and causes even more leaves to drop.

  6. Oh I wish I could have seen your fall colors too, Debbie. From your commenters the photos are wonderful. I only have a cell phone which cannot do JavaScript, it’s just a black square for me because it’s been compiled into a slideshow. Oh well.

The quote holds true for me as well. We may not get the fall colors where I live, but the weather is absolutely gorgeous!

    • I’m so sorry you couldn’t see my trees, TD! I can see them on my phone or computer (with no special coding needed), and they are indeed spectacular. Lots of reds, yellows, and golden hues. Maybe next time, I’ll do individual pictures so you can enjoy them, too!
