Got a Blanket??

Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature. ~Gerard de Nerval, pen name of French poet and author Gérard Labrunie

Little Snapdragon

Wild, free, and unprotected

Winter is coming.

Note: After highs reaching 60 degrees Sunday and Monday, temps here are expected to take a nosedive by the weekend … down to the 20s and low 30s. Brrr! Hope this little flower finds a way to survive an Illinois winter.

Haiku Times Two

Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. ~Lao Tzu, ancient Chinese philosopher and writer

Mr. Grasshopper,
What do you think you’re doing
Clinging to that wall?

Madam, I’m merely
Trying to see if this brick
Makes a sturdy house.

Changes on the Way

The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain. ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, nineteenth century American poet

Gathering storm clouds
Hurricane remnants perhaps?
No, just a cold front

Peeking In

How strange that Nature does not knock, and yet does not intrude! ~Emily Dickinson, 19th century American poet

Moth or butterfly?
Who cares when it’s so pretty
And tarries awhile?

Note: Found this beauty clinging to the screen one day when we were taking advantage of natural air conditioning. Any guesses as to what it is?

Resilience

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow. ~Proverb

Brave little flowers.
Warmth came too fast; cold followed.
Thrives nevertheless.

Being Grateful

To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven. ~Johannes A. Gaertner

Kid home to visit.
Mama can’t keep up with blogging.
Forgive her, won’t you?

Note: Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! I’ll be away from Blogland for a few days while I celebrate. Catch up with you all soon.

A Lobster of Another Color

lobster

I live at the Shedd.
Most lobsters are green or brown.
What’s cooler than blue?

Note: This blue lobster, a resident of the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, is the result of a 1 in 2 million chance of genetic mutation. For more on this beauty, watch the video.

Purpose

Watermelon-colored Crepe Myrtle

Watermelon-colored Crepe Myrtle

Bloom where you’re planted,

Or leave and thrive somewhere else.

We, like seeds, need goals.

Pretty Peonies

peony16

Peonies

Long lived balls of fluff
Sun-loving perennials
Too bad they draw ants.

Note: These fragrant beauties are Peonies, which come in just about every color except blue. Ants feed on the sweet nectar of the buds and don’t harm the plant, or so the experts say. Best for growing zones 3-8.

Snow Bunny

bunny

North wind blows my face.
Wet snow stings and cuts my fur.
I’m ready for Spring.

Note: This is a Haiku (my first, actually!). And since I’m not a poet, I’m open to any constructive criticism you experts might offer.
